God Always Keeps His Promises

"For still the vision awaits its appointed time;
    it hastens to the end—it will not lie.
If it seems slow, wait for it;
    it will surely come; it will not delay"

Habakkuk 2:3

Habakkuk prayed to God in complaint about the violence and injustice his people were experiencing. The people had strayed from Jehovah, and their kings and rulers continually urged them to sin. They sacrificed their children to other gods, killed, stole, committed adultery, and so on. There was hunger, drought, and death as a consequence of sin. Habakkuk, outraged by all the evil Israel was practicing, complained to God and asked how long He would tolerate such injustice. God responded, letting him know that He would raise up a nation to bring justice. God would use the Chaldeans to correct the people and cleanse them of their wickedness. He spoke to Habakkuk and told him to write down the vision, because even if it took a long time to come true, it would surely come true. At the end, Habakkuk declared in prayer:

"Though the fig tree should not blossom,
    nor fruit be on the vines,
the produce of the olive fail
    and the fields yield no food,
the flock be cut off from the fold
    and there be no herd in the stalls,
yet I will rejoice in the Lord;
    I will take joy in the God of my salvation.
God, the Lord, is my strength;
    he makes my feet like the deer's;
    he makes me tread on my high places."

Habakkuk 3:17-19

This scripture reminds us that no matter how dreadful our circumstances are, God is in control. Even though everything indicates that the promise will not be fulfilled, we cannot forget that God always fulfills what He promises. He sees our brokenness, He sees the injustice and violence we are experiencing in this present time, but we can rest in the knowledge that in due time, He will bring justice and raise us up again for the glory of His name. If you feel persecuted, dejected, or troubled like Habakkuk, fear not. God is in control and He hears your prayer. Wait a little longer and you will see how He will be glorified in your life. But while you wait, don't stop worshipping God. Glorify Him and thank Him for all He has done and will do for you. He dwells in your praise. Your gratitude is pleasing to Him, and your faith moves His hand in your favor. Serve Him wholeheartedly with thanksgiving and love, and in His time you will see your promise fulfilled.
